You press the remote, but your garage door won’t open. It’s easy to assume the opener is the problem. After all, that’s the part you use to open and close the door every day. However, garage door spring repair may be what’s needed to get things moving again.

What does the spring do?
Your opener doesn’t do all the work on its own. The spring counterbalances the weight of your garage door, allowing it to lift more easily. When a spring is damaged or broken, the door can’t operate reliably or safely, even if the opener itself is working.
That’s why a door that won’t open needs an assessment before you decide to replace the opener. Buying a new one won’t resolve the issue if it’s a broken spring.
What should you tell the technician?
You don’t need to know which part has failed before calling. Just describe what happened when the problem occurred, for instance:
- Movement: Did the door stay closed or stop partway through opening?
- Timing: Did the problem happen suddenly, or had you noticed some recent trouble?
- Sounds: Did you hear any unusual noises when the issue started?
Leave further testing to a technician rather than repeatedly trying to operate the door.
